moving, purging, cleansing

moving: no one likes to do it (ok, sadists probably do). but it is a lot of work.

however, there are benefits - the time between jobs, between living arrangements, etc provides the time and change necessary to contemplate on one's past and evaluate how they have been living and what they want to obtain in their life and their future to have in store. it is a reflective time and also the act of packing and choosing what to no longer bring with one can be a sort of letting go with parts of the past that have been clung to or are hurtful.

it is also draining though - no matter how much or little one is looking forward to change, it takes something out of you.

goalie commentators

it seems like every ex-goalie is a NHL commentator. here is my list of them in decreasing tolerance:

  • kelly hrudey
  • greg millen
  • darren pang
  • helen keller (go with it - she is the control...i would rather have a deaf, blind commentator than the next two)
  • lisa simpson
  • glenn healy

glenn healy is terrible!!! guh try to watch a game he does without him mentioning: kovalev, 1994 ny rangers, smartening up, kovalev going top corner backhand on a breakaway (he used to do that against me in practice), or a general negative vibe.

Update, 2012 While the cliches of Healy remain the same, he has gotten a lot better. Some games I even make it to the third period before he irks me :P

2008 new years resolutions

here are my resolutions...(i'm making them up post jan 1, but who cares really? i'll try to put up more as i think of them)

  1. i know i will always be very ambitious and at the same time very laid back [but not concurrently]...and it drives me nuts sometimes...so maybe, i will try to remain ambitious, but more consistently instead of trying to do something that can't be done and then being lazy the next couple days: try doing less every day....rambling....summary: set goals on a day by day basis
  2. i am tolerant and i stand up for myself when i need be, but i would like to be less tolerant actually, so that i can propel desired change in my life quicker and be happier. i'm not saying that i'm going to be ignorant, just looking more out for number 1 this year. too much patience can be a fault.
  3. be more balanced
  4. consistent sleep cycle (good luck on this one)
  5. less alcohol, more exercise, healthy eating. i did pretty good on this last year and would like to continue this trend.
  6. this item will probably be the hardest for me to fulfill but i think it would be beneficial to practice daily meditation/breathing. (in all seriousness)

flashlights of the past and future

an observation: in sci-fi shows, whether made 30 years ago or in the present and whether set in the past or distant future, the technology of flashlights has not evolved at all...don't believe me? watch anything sci-fi...you would think that in the future we would learn to modify the dual nature of light somehow...nope just regular old flashlights down caves and abysses and underwater and in space...

Fare ye well, Guitar World Acoustic

i'm disappointed to hear that the only guitar magazine that i respected, Guitar World Acoustic, is no longer producing issues.

most of the issues were great and produced new songs that i had not heard of before and grew to enjoy. the magazine was only released bimonthly, an as such, it was eagerly anticipated and i have every issue of the last seven years (over 40).

on the bright side, now i have time to go back to the old issues and learn the songs that i didn't get around to.

TV On The Radio - Will Do ()

Really good song off of TV on the Radio's new album Nine Types of Light.  I love the lyrics

...Your love makes a fool of you
You can't seem to understand
Our heart doesn't play by rules
And love has it's own demands

But I'll be there to take care of you
If ever you should decide
But you don't want to waste your life
In the middle of a lovesick lullaby

Anytime will do
My love
Anytime will do...

Words of Wisdom

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny..."
